Josh Cobia - Where Did You Go?

“Probably one of the saddest songs I have ever written. About a friend who suffered with addiction.”

David Parke - Falling

“This song is a great idea I would love to build upon later and really flesh out into something more special than this.  It’s got a fun poppy feel to it that I have never really explored before.  It’s lightyears better than my iPad experiment yesterday!  Hahah”

Chad Byrne - Black Balloons

more songs, more fun!

Hi all. I’m adding a few day’s worth of entries, so make sure to check them out. It’s funny how when you plan to have time you end up having none, and vice versa. Well, I got slammed with a lot of recording dates and charts to do (in addition to gearing up for a move), so while I may be temporary out of commission, I’ll be getting back on shortly. I’m turning this blog into a collective of sorts, and what I’ll do is just post songs as they come in- whether it’s one song a day or batches here and there, we can all still sit back and enjoy listening to each other’s work.

If you haven’t yet, definitely check out the first couple days of entries to see where everything began.

David Parke - Quick Bullet

Daniel Villa - Soldier

David Parke - Day 3

Chad Byrne and Tim Joachim - Gram Fence

David Parke - Sometimes Looking Back is Easier Than Looking Forward

Addison Kowalski - Tearing Up My Heart (Cover)

still have a little catchup to do on weekend stuff but here we go for some of today’s submissions!

———————

Autumn - David Parke (Los Angeles, CA)

“This idea was started at 11pm on day 1 on the piano.  I thought all day about how I wanted this song to sound and the most interesting part is how that all went out the door when I sat down to do it!  The 1/4” I was using was dying so it created this clicking sound on the bass track that sounds like an off-time metronome — I’ll take that as art! As song writing isn’t my strong point, It’s going to be a challenge starting an idea and moving on the next day.  Ready for day 2!”

1206 - Addison Kowalski (San Francisco, CA)

You Walked By - Andrew Capra

keeping it simple on the update today. whirlwind of a weekend….

Hope To Hold Onto - David Greco (San Francisco, CA)

Dr. When - Corrigan Vaughan (Orange County, CA)

I have this theory about dance music. The lyrics are pretty much just stream of consciousness nonsense, usually with some sort of vague theme of empowerment. I’m pretty sure the songwriters literally just open up their voice recorders of choice and sing whatever pops into their heads. So I decided to put my theory to the test. This is me, making up the lyrics as I go along (with some help from Garage Band for the cheesy dance loops and vocal effect, and Text Edit so I could write down my chorus).”

Fingers - Daniel Villa

Back Home - Andrew Capra

Owl - Chad Byne

day two…a little less shellshock than day one but fun nonetheless.

most of my friends want to join in but aren’t stoked on the one-a-day thing. don’t stress, just submit when you can! the more the merrier.

Oak Mojo - Chad Byrne

Red Leaves - Andrew Capra

“a city hymn for the wintertime. tech note- the song is too quiet so turn it up to listen.”

Should Be Owned - Josh Cobia

I had fun with this one. I was sitting in a coffee shop and opened up Logic. I threw a fun beat together and then took it home to overdub guitar, vocals and bass. I’m thinking tomorrow might not be so easy.. but so far I’m having a blast with the project.”

Speak - Daniel Villa (ft. Jessica Villa)

”’When it comes to human beings, the only type of cause that matters is final cause, the purpose. What a person had in mind. Once you understand what people really want, you can’t hate them anymore. You can fear them, but you can’t hate them, because you can always find the same desires in your own heart.’ - Orson Scott Card, Speaker for the Dead”

December 1st

day one and we’re off to a great start. i think i’ll be doing one post per day and just adding all submissions to it for ease of browsing/listening. i’m very excited, mile one and we’re all getting acclimated for the challenge.

When I Stopped - Josh Cobia (Hollywood, CA)

“This song is actually about my songwriting journey. When I was younger (I’m only 22.. but you get it) I always thought that songs were what I was best at. They used to flow effortlessly because everything I would write I would instantly like. It was new, and it was fresh. That made it exciting and simple. I think my thoughts tend to get in the way now. I’m looking forward to the rest of december and hoping to break some bad habits.”

Monday, Dreaming. - Andrew Capra (Long Beach, CA)

“decided to use pro tools on day one. not my smartest move when i spent hours battling and less time writing. oh well. ‘monday, dreaming.’ is just a little song about feeling low on a monday. i’ll go for something happier tomorrow.”

Slop Jingle - Chad Byrne (San Francisco, CA)

admin note- my cousin!

Carrots - Daniel Villa (Seattle, WA)

“i was eating carrots.”

tomorrow

let the games (and crazy experiment) begin.

looking forward to seeing what my friends will send this way! let’s do this.

a

the countdown begins

i’m very excited to begin this exercise. the backstory is simple- my songwriting over the past year has grown tremendously but i still write in these impossible waves. one week i am on my A game, then i spend the next couple weeks tearing my hair out and swearing i could never write again.

so i’m writing for the month of december- as a creative exercise. training for the proverbial marathon. the goal is a song a day- whether it’s recorded on my cell phone or pro tools. i’m going to try some different styles, approaches, and just have fun with it. all recordings will make their way onto this blog.

the fun part is that i have some friends who asked to be involved. how could i say no? so if you come to this page on any given day you might see submissions from some other songwriters- friends of mine. some are going to submit regularly, some here and there but the point it just to stretch everyone’s abilities, listen to some original tunes, and have a great time. so, friends write songs.

if you’d like to be involved or would like more info, drop me an email.
